Head, Heart by Lydia Davis is beautiful, perhaps one of the best poems I've ever heard

One of the most beautiful examples of the power of monosyllabic words

I’m in love with Head, Heart by Lydia Davis, which we recently read in ENGL 450 Daily Themes.

Heart weeps.

Head tries to help heart.

Head tells heart how it is, again: You will lose the ones you love. They will all go. But even the earth will go, someday.

Heart feels better, then.

But the words of head do not remain long in the ears of heart.

Heart is so new to this. I want them back, says heart.

Head is all heart has.

Help, head. Help heart.

It is simple with short words, but it has so many cool rhythms. Considering the repetition and monosyllabic words, it could have been tedious to read, but the commas and the lines make this wonderfully rhythmic and a pleasure to read for the ear.

Similar to the example with the 10 and 12 year old, simple writing can be powerful, especially when you have something to say.
