I had no idea that the Rhodes Scholarship existed until I came to Yale.
You see some people who have been seriously gunning for it since high school. That’s when you realize that, for some, the grind never stops.
These people have all the resources in the world. They get into Yale, but Yale is just one rung in a much longer ladder: med school, law school, the Rhodes, Goldman Sachs. The grind never stops. They’re so focused on climbing the ladder that they’ll never leave it. It will never be enough.
Sometimes it’s frustrating. But at the same time, I’m glad that these kids of the wealthy still have extreme drive rather than none at all. It’s admirable and terrifying.
