Email to Yale College Housing to be Unlocked

Another email demonstrating how to perform an accusations audit and ground expectations

I recently sent an email to be unlocked from a locked housing group. This is another example of an Accusations Audit, popularized by Chris Voss, similar to the Hack Health Email I sent a few months ago. Notice how in the first paragraph, I calibrate their expectations and give an exhaustive list of what they may be thinking.

Subject: An Enormous Request: Accidental Locked Housing Group

Dear Yale College Housing Team,

I hope this email finds you well. First, I would like to express my sincere apologies for any inconvenience my request may cause. You may find that I had not been prioritizing my commitments properly, that I do not understand the importance of following housing rules, and that that my request is unfair, irresponsible, and to your extreme inconvenience.

I am writing to request that I be unlocked from my standalone single group for housing. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of locking in early two days ago to be safe due to the sternly worded email sent out last week to finalize housing.

The housing landscape has drastically changed since then. I understand that there was an over-subscription of standalone singles in the Hopper drawing, and I believe it would be beneficial if I were to leave that group. Furthermore, there is a group that needs a fifth person for a quint, and I would love the opportunity to join them. These are people whom I would very much like to live with.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and I appreciate your help in this matter. Please let me know if there is any additional information you need from me to facilitate this request.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Sincerely, Braden Wong
